Wait- it’s already been three years since the beginning of Nook News?! I can’t even count the amount of stories covered in that time, let alone in the past year! I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who’s been following these weekly updates, whether it be recently or over the last few years! Now then, onto the news for this week:
Visual Novel News:
JAST USA have announced the release date for Jellyfish’s fully animated visual novel, Sisters: Last Day of Summer (sisters ~Natsu no Saigo no Hi~). It will be released on the JAST store and Steam on 3rd June, 2024.
Within a family, a secret lies undiscovered. A boy suddenly wakes up in a house and sees a woman he does not know in front of him. This woman explains she lives in this house with her two daughters and invites our protagonist to start his life with them, to enjoy a simple life.
Shiravune has announced the release date of Criminal Border: 2nd Offence (Liminal Border Part II), which was named as one of our top upcoming visual novels of 2024. It will be coming to Steam and Johren on 7th March, 2024.
Unfairly saddled with crippling debt after the events of Part I, Itsuki Ninomae and the gang turn to fellow student and daughter of a crime lord Kotoko Teshigawara for help. An intertwined web of loyalties and desire awaits as Itsuki, Kotoko and the others fight for justice.
In another update by Shiravune, they announced that The Shell Part II: Purgatorio (Kara no Shoujo 2) will be released on Steam and Johren during Q2 2024. The English localization was handled by Lemnisca, who also handled the script of first instalment that our review praised.
Detective Reiji Tokisaka is back to face down a mystery that spans decades, if not centuries. With the aftermath of his last case weighing on his soul and a long-silent cult resurgent, can he solve the crime—or will it become his curse?
In a final announcement by Shiravune, they announced the release of Taimanin Yukikaze by Lilith. It is set to release in Q2 on Steam and Johren.
A classic visual novel about a demon-slaying ninja. Yukikaze is an up-and-coming young Taimanin with a suite of deadly lightning powers, but when she embarks on a mission to rescue her missing mother, she just might have bitten off more than she can chew…
Gaming News:
While it’s been out in Japan since last year, NIS America is now ready to bring the latest entry in the Ys series to the West! Ys X: Nordics takes place in the Obelia Gulf and sees players take on the roles of series protagonist Adol Christin and a new character, a female pirate named Karja Balta. The game will bring back the series’ well-known action RPG combat, but now navel battles on ships are also being introduced in this new title.
Ys X: Nordics launches for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC this Fall.

The next big expansion for Splatoon 3 will be ready for release next week! Ahead of this, Nintendo has released a nearly five-minute showcase for what players can expect with this new burst of content. The Side Order expansion is a single-player rogue-like mode that sees you travelling to Inkopolis Square from Splatoon 2, but it’s been completely stripped of all its color. Your task is to climb The Spire of Order, where you go up one floor at a time and take on various tasks of your choosing and also getting to select buffs to make you more powerful.

The creator of the famous Suikoden series, Yoshitaka Murayama sadly passed away on February 6th due to complications with an ongoing illness. Alongside his legacy with Suikoden, he was also the scenario writer, producer, and director for the spiritual successor to the franchise: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which will be releasing this April. Rest in peace, Yoshitaka Murayama.
Anime News:
After a decade of waiting, the highly anticipated fourth season of Black Butler finally has a release date! This season will cover the Public School Arc, with new characters being revealed in a brand new trailer.

Would you believe that the mangaka behind the popular Chainsaw Man series, Tatsuki Fujimoto, created a one-shot manga story titled Look Back? If not, you’ll be surprised to hear that it’s getting a anime film adaptation from Avex Pictures. The announcement was made with a short teaser trailer and the announcement of its Japanese release date: June 28th.
