Nook News – 6/13/22 – One Piece’s final act is in sight!

Visual Novel News:

Following Tokyo Chronos and Altdeus: Beyond Chronos (check out our review), MyDearest has announced the latest entry in this VR visual novel series; Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate.

The publisher has stated it to be a “huge upgrade from Altdeus, in particular for the graphics”. Unlike the previous games, this one is classed more as an adventure game rather than a visual novel as it has free movement and several interactive parts.

Gaming News:

While E3 was sorely missed this year, many gaming companies are still hosting digital events in replacement of it. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that E3 will be returning in 2023! What’s more, the event will also return to an in-person one, along with a digital focus as well.

The Microsoft and Bethesda showcase happened this past week and while a lot was announced at the event, one piece of news stood out from the rest. ATLUS are finally bringing more of their highly-acclaimed Persona series to other platforms! Persona 3 Portable is making its return after being stuck on the PSP for over a decade, Persona 4 Golden is getting added to another platform, and Persona 5 Royal is no longer a PlayStation 4 exclusive. All three of these beloved JRPGs are coming to Xbox platforms and Windows PC, with Persona 5 Royal releasing first on October 21st.

Editor Note: Some sources are claiming that a press release was issued stating it will also be coming to PlayStation 4|5 and Steam.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink has had a very rough time in development over the last six years. From a change of developer and very little being shown of the title in that time, we’re unfortunately going to have to wait for the game for a little longer. It has been confirmed that Granblue Fantasy: Relink will now launch sometime in 2023, with CyGames mentioning the COVID-19 pandemic being the primary cause for the game’s many recent delays. On the plus side, all the game has to do now is balance the game’s combat and fix various bugs.

The crazy mix between slice-of-life dragon antics and 2D shoot-em-ups is finally on the horizon, as Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon Breath now has a western release date! Announced by Aksys Games, the title will launch in the west on August 25th for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. For those of you who play the Weiss Schwartz trading card game, you might want to pick up the first run of physical copies, as it will include an exclusive promotional card for the game.

Anime News:

It’s hard to believe, but Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus One Piece is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! It’s a very busy year for the franchise, with a new movie and a brand new trading card game set to release this year, but the biggest news relates to the series’ future, or more accurately, its conclusion. From June 27th to July 25th, the One Piece manga will be on break while Oda takes this time to plan out the final saga of the story!

From one influential manga to another, a huge series is making its return later this year! After the sudden passing of Kentaro Miura in May of last year, the future of his series, Berserk was unclear after the last chapter was released last September. Thankfully, the series is set to return, as Hakusensha announced that Berserk will continue in Young Animal’s 13th issue on June 24!

The popular animated adaptation of Konami’s Castlevania series is getting a follow-up series! Announced during Netflix’s Geeked Week event, Castlevania: Nocturne focuses on Richter, the character that was made popular in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, with the series being animated by Powerhouse Animation.

While we’ve still got a fair bit of time before we continue Senku’s journey to rebuild society in animated form, we’re getting a special episode for the series later this Summer! Dr. Stone RYUSUI takes a more seafaring approach to the series and is set to premiere on July 10th.

Unfortunately, this week’s news roundup is ending on a sad note. Billy Kametz, a famous voice actor that helped bring life to many beloved game and anime characters passed away on June 9th at the age of 35. He was most well known for voicing Josuke Higashikata in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naofumi Iwatani from The Rising of the Shield Hero, and Takuto Maruki from Persona 5 Royal. Rest in peace, Billy Kametz.
