If you’ve ever had any concerns about whether your charging cable is plugged in or not, the Official Xbox One LED Micro USB Charge Cable by Numskull Designs is here to solve them.
Compatible with XBox One or PlayStation 4 controllers, along with other micro-USB devices, this 1.5-meter charging cable shows light flowing through it to let you know it has power surging through. While this particular one is XBox themed and for the older consoles, Numskull Designs sells other designs and a USB C version for the newest generation of consoles.
Let It Flow
Getting right to the standout feature, the LED Micro USB Charge Cable lights up in sequence to indicate the power status. It does this whether there’s anything being charged or not, but you’ll certainly notice quickly if you’ve left it in by mistake.
Visually this is quite pleasing and would go well if you’re setting up a green XBox themed area. One thing I did notice though was that as you get closer to the end of the cable, the less bright it is. This was a bit of a pity.
It’s probably worth noting here that it isn’t just humans who enjoy the visual effect. My cats are absolutely fascinated with this cable.
Plastic Love
While I’m usually a fan of the braided type of cable due to the toughness, this claims to allow for over 8,000 bends without any problems. While I can’t verify that, I’ve been using this for a month without problems. I was a bit concerned due to the plastic casing, but it hasn’t become kinked and the LEDs all still work. I’ve purposely stress tested it by tying it in knots, but it just straightens up when untied.
Verdict
The Official XBox One LED Micro USB Charge Cable does exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s strong and durable, along with working nicely as a themed cable for display. The only thing I’d really want to improve would be the strength of the light as it gets closer to the end.
