Gaming News:

In a surprise move, according to Bloomberg, famed game developer and publisher Square-Enix was being eyed up for purchase. These reports were quickly debunked, with Square-Enix quickly releasing a statement denying the claims these claims.

Nintendo recently released a showcase from a variety of independent developers with their Indie Showcase. Here are some highlights:

Cris Tales finally has a release date: July 20th! This action RPG has been in the works for a while now, but if you want a chance to try it out before release, a demo for the game has been released on the Nintendo eShop.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights has received a release date for the full version, with it releasing on Nintendo Switch and PC on June 22nd. We covered the game when it initially was available on Early Access saying it was a game we recommend.

Classic indie hit Fez recently had its 9th anniversary! To celebrate, the game is making its way to the Nintendo Switch and is now available for purchase at the eShop.

From the same team behind last year’s Panzer Dragoon remake, they’re taking a shot with another classic SEGA IP. The House of the Dead Remake is, as the name would imply, a remake of the original arcade rail shooter. Although, how the game will play without a lightgun accessory is unclear as of now.

Finally, they closed out the showcase with the announcement of Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals! It will release later this year, though a more specific release window wasn’t specified.

Anime News:

Why the Shonen Jump manga hit Chainsaw Man has yet to receive the anime treatment is beyond me! Though we’ll finally be getting a first look at the anime adaption with confirmation that the first trailer will be unveiled at the MAPPA Stage event. The event will be taking place on June 27th, with JUJUTSU KAISEN, and Attack on Titan Final Season also being confirmed to be showcased.

The hit Netflix anime series based on the Castlevania franchise has confirmed that a 4th season is in production and will serve as the show’s final season. We also got a key visual and teaser trailer to go alongside the announcement.

The 4th season of Castlevania premieres on Netflix on May 13th.

On a related note, Netflix decided to drop quite a surprising announcement: they’ll be producing a live-action Gundam film with the help of Legendary Pictures with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing! This is notable because Legendary had a hand with other media based on giant fictional characters, such as Pacific Rim and the recently released Godzilla vs. King KongGundam hasn’t exactly had big success with live-action productions, but could this new production will break that cycle?

While the current anime season already has a tanned female lead with Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, looks like we’ll be getting another one this Summer. The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, a slice-of-life manga series themed around magical girls is getting an anime adaptation! The original mangaka, Wakame Konbu even drew a celebratory image to promote the anime series.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! is set to premiere this Summer.

Those of you who are anime fans in the United Kingdom or Ireland will undoubtedly be familiar with the Manga brand. They’ve been in the industry for over 30 years, with them playing a major part in localizing seminal anime films like Ghost in the Shell in the region. So it’s quite a surprise that from today, they’ll be rebranding to the Funimation brand in the UK and Ireland. Many memories were undoubtedly formed thanks to their efforts, so their original branding will certainly be missed.

Announced on Osamu Kobayashi’s Twitter account, the famed anime directory sadly passed away recently due to kidney cancer at the age of 57. He was most well known for directing BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, along with episodes from Naruto Shippuden, Gurren Lagann, and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. We at NookGaming offer our condolences to the friends and family affected by his death.

Upcoming Releases:

Prices for rare retro games are understandably not enticing for some, so we have to give props to companies willing to re-release their old titles for modern platforms. That’s exactly what WayForward is doing with a digital re-release of the original Shantae, which was originally released as a Game Boy Color exclusive back in 2002.

Shantae is coming to Nintendo Switch via the eShop on April 22nd.

A trilogy pack with three entries in Koei Tecmo’s Atelier series is coming this week. The Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack includes Atelier SophieAtelier Firis, and Atelier Lydie & Suelle all in one neat package along with a large amount of the previously released DLC.

The Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack releases for Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on April 22nd. A review on this will be released here on NookGaming.

After the phenomenal success of Nier: Automata back in 2017, fans have been hungry for more content from the series. Square-Enix is more than happy to oblige with a remake of the original Nier game but has decided to overcomplicate it by naming it Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139…
