While not a visual novel itself, dating sims and raising sims often crossover into this area. Classic 90’s raising sim Princess Maker Refine launched on Steam to mixed reviews, but has received a surprise update, despite being five years since release.

The update features a new opening movie produced by Yonago GAINAX under the leadership of the original GAINAX “Princess Maker” designer: Takami Akai, revised localizations in Chinese and English as the previous ones had been criticized and the game has been rebuilt to optimize it on modern OS.

While not mentioned by any official source, some users in the community forums have said that the latest update has censored parts of the game.
