Visual Novel News:

Spike Chunsoft have officially announced the upcoming release of Anonymous;Code by MAGES on 8th September 2023. This is the next instalment of the Sci;ADV series and will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4 & Steam.

Andrew ‘Steiner’ Hodgson who worked on titles such as Hello Lady and My Dad’s the Queen of All VTubers?! is the translator. This will be the first visual novel in the series to receive an English dub.

This is the latest work by STEINS;GATE creator Chiyomaru Shikura, in collaboration with returning staff from the Science Adventure Series. The suspense that takes hold at the end of a digital society, which everyone reading this is experiencing right now… In the world where the boundary between digital and real has disappeared, you will be one of the ANONYMOUS. If this world is a game…you are a mob!

The direct sequel to Nightmare x Sisters – Sacrifice of Lust-, Nightmare x Onmyoji – Paradox of Forbiddance by developer Guilty is now available on MangaGamer.

Not all spirits rest in peace, so it’s up to the onmyouji, Kuon Katsuragi, to banish their evil from this world. Lately though, such incidents of specter possession have been on the rise, and the arrival of two sisters, Setsuna and Yuka, suggests there might be someone secretly behind it all. The sisters are soon captured by an evil cult, and Kuon resolves to wield her powers in an attempt to rescue them… Will she too fall victim to the cult and be forced to breed new demons? Or will the three of them manage to escape and ultimately stop the cult’s evil plan?!

Shiravune have announced the upcoming release of Kuroinu Redux, due to release on 19th May 2023. This is a remaster of the first Kuroinu visual novel and features additional stories, improved graphics, and quality of life improvements.

Desperate to end the bloodshed once and for all, the Seven Shields Alliance—seven strongholds along Eos’s northernmost border united by an elven reincarnation of the Goddess Larentia—seek out the assistance of the protagonist Vult and his Black Dog Mercenaries.

PQube has announed that ghostpia Season One will be releasing on Steam and Nintendo Switch in 2023. This is a kinetic visual novel, with a picture book style and lo-fi aesthetic.

‘ghostpia’ is an immersive visual novel following Sayoko, the only foreigner in town. She is sharing a room with a mysterious girl Yoru but wants to go back to her hometown. She crosses the empty snowy desert searching, does this home exist? Can she remember what she has forgotten? All she can do is dream.

The fourth and final DLC pack for Fire Emblem Engage is coming sooner than you might have expected! This story-focused DLC chapter showcases two new characters, but it keeps things shrouded in mystery to avoid spoiling it. We’ll discover what this all means when the DLC chapter releases on April 5th.

Have you yet to play the collection of classic Sonic the Hedgehog games? If so, there’s now an updated version coming just in time for the blue blur’s 32nd birthday! Sonic Origins Plus brings with it the four games from the original release but also comes packaged with twelve Game Gear titles and a fan-favorite character, Amy Rose is now fully playable in the original classic games. Better yet, if you own the original collection, you can get all this extra content as a DLC package.

Sonic Origins Plus releases for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on June 23rd.

This past weekend, AnimeJapan 2023 took place and we got a ton of exciting new announcements for every kind of anime fan! Here are some of the highlights:

After a two-year wait, one of the most popular isekai series is returning for a third season! Re: ZERO Starting Life in Another World is back, and we got a brand new trailer and key visual of the new season. Unfortunately, that’s all we have, as a release window was not announced.

Spy X Family is returning this year, but we’re getting much more than we bargained for! A second season has been confirmed to be in production and is set for an October release. Perhaps even more exciting news than that is an original film based on the series that will be released in Japan on December 22nd: Spy X Family CODE: White. While previously announced last year, we now have our proper first look at the film with the first key visual being revealed.

Jujutsu Kaisen is returning for a second season, with a good amount of focus being put on fan-favorite character, Gojo! We got a brand new key visual and even a trailer for the new season was revealed too. Last, but not least, it was announced that season two will premiere on July 6th.

Around a year and a half ago, we got the news that a new movie focused on the second Digimon series was in the works. After all this time, we finally have our first proper look at the film with a short teaser trailer! The film is a sequel to Digimon Last Evolution Kizuna and takes place in 2012. A brand new character named Rei Owada will play a big part in the film, as he claims to be the first person to partner with a Digimon. The film will be released in Japan on October 27th with no word of a western release at this time.

If you are a fan of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, you’ll be thrilled to hear that the franchise is getting a theatrical film! Adapting the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid novels, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out received its first trailer and a brand new key visual. The film will release on June 23rd in Japan, with no western release announced at this time.

While it took a while for it to get a second season, we thankfully don’t need to wait nearly as long for the continuation of this well-loved series! Season two of The Devil is a Part-Timer was released last year, and we’re getting more episodes of it this July, with the continuation being announced with a brand-new trailer.

Outside of the AnimeJapan 2023 event, we got a few more anime announcements this week. My Hero Academia just recently wrapped up its sixth season and announced that a seventh is on its way! The announcement was made through a short teaser and a key visual drawn by series creator, Kohei Horikoshi.

Arguably the most influential mangaka of all time, Osamu Tezuka may have passed away years ago, but his stories and characters are still being shared and told today in brand new ways. We can add another one of his series to that list, as Phoenix is getting adapted into an anime! Titled Phoenix: Eden 17, the series got a brand-new teaser showing the series’ production, as well as a key visual for the series.

Phoenix: Eden 17 will premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
