Finding a new show to binge-watch is great, but sometimes you just want to play a game with your favorite anime characters. You want to dive into the world deeper and the only way to do that is to get your hands on a game that is based on your favorite anime!
Yes, yes we know there are plenty of duds. Many anime games have been released in the past and a lot of them have been a major disappointment for anime lovers. But that does not mean that there aren’t any good ones.
We have done the dirty work for you and dug through the mud to find some gems for you! These games are worth all your money and your time!
1) Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 – Road to Boruto
Fans of Naruto have been delighted with the release of the latest Ultimate Ninja Storm series. The series was brought to an end with the sixth installment, but the game still has a high replay factor.
Just like the series the game is extremely fun. The fourth installment is highly popular among the fans because of the battle mechanics. In the fourth installment, the developer allowed the players to switch between characters during battles which increased the enjoyment levels of the players.
Fans that are extremely strict with following the anime storyline will not be disappointed either because the game does a pretty good job of wrapping up the storyline while sticking to the anime. All loose ends are tied up and the game finishes with an epic boss battle.
This is a kind of adventure that you will never forget. The game is extremely fun for both Naruto fans and non-Naruto fans. The game mechanics are easy to understand and there are no dragging storylines.
2) DragonBall Xenoverse 2
The first game in the DragonBall universe was a bit of a hit or miss with the fans but the second one Xenoverse 2 knocked it out of the park with so much epic content. If you have played the first installment you will immediately realize how much thought and effort the developers had put into the game the second time around.
Coming to the gameplay, it is pretty decent. There are so many modes of gameplay that you will be spending hours playing this game. The game has been designed to hook you with too many things going around and happening all at the same time.
Dragon Ball Z was delighted to find that they could create their characters in the second installment. You can upgrade your character’s skills, and even dress. It is more similar to an open-world RPG game with lost parallel storylines and quests.
The main game or the main storyline is about how the timelines were altered and your mission is to fix these altered timelines and restore them to their original state. This is more fun when you play the game!
3) Doki Doki Literature Club
The name can be very misleading. One look and you will immediately think this is a dating game targeted at the girls but boy are you wrong. The game does look cute because well the characters wear cute clothes and the colors are pink and coral but it is one of the most unusual and unpredictable games you will ever play in your life.
If you can stomach grotesque and you are a fan of horror then this game might just be right up your alley. The game is a psychological horror game that will not let you look away once you start playing. It is also a part interactive visual novel which is a nice change from the first two games mentioned above.
Already played the original free version? There’s an expanded release with some additional content called Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!
4) Fire Emblem: Three Houses
The fourth game on the list is a turn-based strategy game. If you are a fan of strategy games like clash of clans you will for sure enjoy this strategy game with an anime twist.
The game may sound simple but it isn’t. The combat is quite complicated and it will take you some time to get used to it but the gameplay will make it worth it. Whatever you can want from a game, great characters, a gripping storyline, and freedom to explore – Fire Emblem delivers on all three aspects.
5) Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
When you are talking about anime games you cannot miss Wrath of the White Witch. Produced by Studio Ghibli, everything about this game is top-notch. The game may have been released a few years back but the story is as moving as it was and the art does not look dated at all!
Calling the artwork beautiful would be an understatement. The beautiful artwork adds to the storyline and the gameplay. It is a JRPG game and a turn-based game. There is an overworld for you to explore and yes there are side quests that make it difficult for you to log out of the game and return to your real-life priorities!
6) Tales of Berseria
Do you need a good old JRPG? Then look no further than Tales of Berseria. The game may sound very formulaic on paper because it follows a badass female heroine who goes on a revenge spree to avenge her brother’s death but the game is much more exciting when you play it.
It is a bit formulaic but the storyline keeps you intrigued. There are several surprises woven into the storyline which will keep you glued to the screen. The combat is not something extraordinary but the game offers 60-plus hours of gameplay which surely is a bonus!
7) Sakura Wars: So Long My Love
The settings are in 1928 New York. The game follows Shinjiro Taiga, who is a captain in training. You will follow his journey as he defeats the gigantic robot in New York City and also develops romantic relationships with his teammates.
The game falls under the slice of life genre but can also be categorized under dating sim. The gameplay is a turn-based strategy game and it also has an episodic formula. Not a fan of strategy or don’t have the older consoles to play this? The newest hack and slash Sakura Wars game might be of more interest.
These are the top 7 anime games that you can play in your spare time! Happy gaming!
