As I mentioned in my review, Gal*Gun 2 is a great game and in my opinion, Gal*Gun 2 – Doki Doki VR Mode is one of the best ways to play it. Sadly, it was designed to work with the HTC Vive (released in 2016) which uses very different controls from modern VR headsets.
Unfortunately, it’s not ideal to play Pico 4 controllers. As a legacy of the HTC Vive’s trackpad, you have to deal with weird controls like tilting the analog stick and pressing to select options on the menu or snap turn. There are user-created custom controller bindings, but I know I’m not the only one who tried various options there and still couldn’t get them to work. I’ve seen people give up on the game entirely after failing to get past the title menu.
Still, it is possible to play! It’s not the most intuitive and snap turning is slow which doesn’t help. But here’s a quick guide on the Gal*Gun 2 – Doki Doki VR Mode controllers when using the Pico 4 headset.
If you’re looking for how to use it on the Meta Quest (which works a lot better), check out this guide.
Initial Setup
You shouldn’t need to do anything special here. Just start the Streaming Assistant software on the PC and choose either Wifi or USB. Then go into the Pico 4 headset, start Streaming Assistant from the library, and choose the Connect option. It will then launch SteamVR.
If you come across the ‘Headset Not Detected’ error, try resetting the Headset and choosing ‘more info’. In more info, you may need to choose to ‘Unblock All’ if you’ve had crashes previously, then restart SteamVR.
Next, open up the game in VR mode via Steam.
It should be set to the ‘Pico Controller Legacy Bindings’ by default, but if you’ve been changing controller bindings to try and get it to work, you may need to reset it.
