Please Be Happy features two routes with two endings for each determined by your choices. There are also three side stories with the game’s secondary characters, these can be pursued on either route but you can only finish two in one playthrough.
This guide will tell you how to get on each of the two routes, achieve all four endings, see all three side stories, and in doing so collect all 15 Steam achievements.
Side Stories
Pursuing the three side stories in Please Be Happy is actually pretty simple. On occasion you will be taken to a map screen offering a variety of locations to visit, some of these will be marked with a character’s face. The three characters you will spot on the map screen are Lena, Tommy, and Mr. Kim.
To see their side stories simply make sure you always choose to visit your chosen characters whenever the opportunity is presented. Tommy and Mr. Kim conflict so the easiest way to see all three is to always select Lena when you see her, and then choose one of the remaining characters for your first playthrough and then focus on the final character for your second.
As long as you always select a character when they are available you will be locked into their side story and you’ll see their final scene in Chapter 5 of Please Be Happy. Seeing all three stories through to the end will earn you the following Steam achievements:
It Takes a Village: Made friends with Tommy
New Old Friends: Landed a legendary catch with Mr. Kim
Make Like a Tree: Put on a perfect performance with Lena
Main Routes
Chapter 1-3 Choices (Common Route)
Aspen! / Juliet! – This choice does not impact route or ending, make whichever selection you prefer.
Watch a movie with Aspen. / Rest at home with Juliet. – This choice does not impact route or ending, make whichever selection you prefer.
I want to try things with Aspen. / I don’t think I can. – This choice determines your route. Choose the first option to start Aspen’s route or the second option to start Juliet’s route.
Starting Aspen’s route will lead to the following Steam achievements:
Open Ending: Begin Chapter Four (Aspen Route)
Stray Thoughts: Begin Chapter Five (Aspen Route)
Starting Juliet’s route will lead to the following Steam achievements:
Matters of the Heart: Begin Chapter Four (Juliet Route)

I miss travelling to new places. / I’m glad to have settled down now. – This choice impacts your ending. Choose the first option for the wild ending or the second option for the comfy ending.
The new ones. / The familiar ones. – This choice impacts your ending. Choose the first option for the wild ending or the second option for the comfy ending.
Seeing Aspen’s wild ending will earn you the Blue Pearl Crocus Steam achievement.
Seeing Aspen’s comfy ending will earn you the Forget-Me-Not Steam achievement.
Chapter 4-5 Choices (Juliet Route)
Mount Victoria / Bellhouse / Library – This choice does not impact the ending, make whichever selection you prefer.
Leave it there. / Keep going. – This choice impacts your ending. Choose the first option for the wild ending or the second option for the comfy ending.
I’m excited for what it could mean. / I don’t want my current life to change. – This choice impacts your ending. Choose the first option for the wild ending or the second option for the comfy ending.
I miss travelling to new places. / I’m glad to have settled down now. – This choice impacts your ending. Choose the first option for the wild ending or the second option for the comfy ending.
Seeing Juliet’s wild ending will earn you the Zinnia Elegans Steam achievement.
Seeing Juliet’s comfy ending will earn you the Alsike Clover Steam achievement.
Wrap-Up
The remaining unmentioned Steam achievements will be earned simply by playing Please Be Happy up to Chapter 3. Once you have completed both routes, seen all endings, and seen all side stories as explained in this guide you will earn the final Steam achievement: Thank You!
