Tokyo Game Show Sale - Atelier Ryza 3

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key

Genre: JRPG
Release Date: 03/24/2023
OpenCritic Score: 83
Discount: 25%
Price: $44.99 / £37.49 / €44.99

The third and final entry in the Atelier Ryza series released earlier this year, and now it’s on sale with a 25% discount. Whilst it isn’t the biggest discount on offer in the Tokyo Game Show sale, the Atelier games don’t pop up on discount as often as other JRPGs and Atelier Ryza 3 is certainly worth the price of admission. For those who haven’t had a chance to play the first two titles in the series, those are also on sale right now. It’s a perfect chance to jump into the series. If you’re still a little hesitant about the price, you can read our review of this breezy summer JRPG to see if it’s a good fit for you.

Like A Dragon: Ishin!

Genre: Action RPG
Release Date: 02/17/2023
OpenCritic Score: 81
Discount: 40%
Price: $41.99 / £35.99 / €41.99

Like A Dragon: Ishin is a remake of a 2014 title that never made its way west. With the remake players outside of Japan can finally experience Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s take on the Edo period. Ishin is packed with content, and it’s a great time for series veterans and newcomers alike. You can take a look at our review for more details on the adventures of Ryoma Sakamoto.

Tokyo Game Show Sale - Stranger of Paradise

Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Genre: Action RPG, Soulslike
Release Date: 15/03/2022
OpenCritic Score: 72
Discount: 30%
Price: $27.99 / £31.49 / €34.99

Whilst it wasn’t the biggest hit on release, Stranger of Paradise is a good bit of fun for Final Fantasy fans. Team Ninja brought their own unique flair to the series, and there has been some great post-launch support with some sizeable DLC offerings for those who find themselves falling for this odd little gem in the rough.

Tokyo Game Show Sale - Soul Hackers 2

Soul Hackers 2

Genre: JRPG
Release Date: 08/26/2022
OpenCritic Score: 75
Discount: 60%
Price: $23.99 / £19,99 / €23.99

Soul Hackers 2 failed to make the same big splash as the hugely successful Persona 5, but it’s still a great game in its own right. At a whopping 60% discount you can’t go wrong with a title from Atlus, one of the most accomplished Japanese games developers out there. It might not knock your socks off, but Soul Hackers 2’s impeccable sense of style is sure to bring you some joy.

Tokyo Game Show Sale - Phoenix Wright Trilogy

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Genre: Adventure, Visual Novel
Release Date: 04/09/2019
OpenCritic Score: 82
Discount: 67%
Price: $9.89 / £8.90 / €9.89

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is the perfect entry point for those looking to get into the legendary adventure game series. With a 67% discount you’re getting three great games for just under $10. That’s some incredible value for money.

Samurai Maiden

Genre: Action, Hack ‘n Slash
Release Date: 12/08/2022
OpenCritic Score: 60
Discount: 30%
Price: $41.99 / £34.99 / €41.99

The first of two games in the Tokyo Game Show sale that are for those with an acquired taste. Samurai Maiden is a treat for fans of yuri and Dynasty Warriors style combat. A specific combination of interests to be sure, but I’m willing to bet there’s more of us out there than you’d expect. If you’re not sure if this one’s up your alley why not check out our review to see what it’s all about.

Tokyo Game Show Sale - Senran Kagura Burst:Renewal

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal

Genre: Action, Hack ‘n Slash
Release Date: 12/08/2022
OpenCritic Score: 66
Discount: 70% (UK/EU)
Price: £10.49 / €11.99

Whilst Senran Kagura 7even is missing in action (most likely dead in the water), we still have plenty of entries in the series to keep us occupied. Burst Re:Newal is a pretty solid hack ‘n slash title packed with the fanservice content that has come to define the Senran Kagura series. Sadly this one isn’t on discount in the US. Apologies to our US readers, better luck next time I suppose. For our lucky UK/EU readers thinking of picking this up, make sure to check out our review here.

Fist Of The North Star: Lost Paradise

Genre: Action RPG
Release Date: 10/02/2018
OpenCritic Score: 73
Discount: 70%
Price: $5.99 / £4.79 / €5.99

My personal pick of the Tokyo Game Show sale. Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is an absolute gem. A Fist of the North Star game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, with all of the goofy accoutrements of the Yakuza series. This is the only game where you can play as bartender Kenishiro, which makes it a must-buy at any price. At $5.99 it would be silly not to buy it.

Wrap-Up

The PlayStation Tokyo Game Show sale is packed full of incredible Japanese games on discount. These are the highlights, but there are plenty of other games to check out if none of these tickle your fancy. Almost all of Capcom’s PlayStation titles are discounted to some degree, alongside a massive selection from other Japanese publishers. You can check out the full selection here.

Make sure you keep an eye out here on NookGaming for more sales highlights in the future.
